Their rite of passage involves battling wall-crawling, acid-spewing, bug-like Aliens spawned for their hunting pleasure by an Alien queen held captive and forced to lay the eggs that, after gestating in human hosts, become their prey. Scott didn't have any time for the theory that each android in the series was being named in alphabetical order – Ash, Bishop, Call, David. In fact, we get a sneaking suspicion he might not have much interest in any of the Alien films he didn't work on. So we think it's safe to say that Scott has no interest in AvP or making any attempt to avoid contradicting those two films. But the troubles don't end there.īringing Scott back to the franchise he launched all those years ago, Fox did not find a cheerleader for Alien vs Predator.ĭamon Lindelof – one of Prometheus's writers – tells a story about raising the issue of Charles Bishop Weyland from AvP with the director (via Crave): "He just sort of looked at me like I had just slapped him in the face." Brothers, rival cousins, something like that. We're sure Fox could offer a reasonable explanation if they really needed to. This seems unlikely, but doesn't quite feel canon-breaking. So unless there are two completely unrelated companies that just happen to appear in related movies… Questions were raised in Prometheus when the film introduced us to Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), the founder of Weyland Corp, a company that has loomed large in Alien mythology.īut we had already met Charles Bishop Weyland (played by Lance Henriksen, who appeared as the synthetic Bishop in Aliens and Alien 3), the founder of Weyland Industries. This led to comic book and video game crossovers, apparently culminating in 20th Century Fox's decision to unite the franchises in its 2004 movie and 2007 sequel.īut the cracks began to show between the franchises when Scott returned with 2012's Prometheus after a 33-year-break, and they have widened further with Alien: Covenant. The seeds for AvP were sown in 1990's Predator 2, where a xenomorph skull was included in the trophy room on the Predator's ship. ![]()
